Speaker, Manan Shah, assists in a wide variety of employment tax engagements within the practice including compliance, advisory and controversy services. His has a strong technical knowledge of a wide variety of employment tax issues including payroll tax compliance procedures, state unemployment and withholding tax sourcing, federal and state payroll tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, worker classification determinations, federal and state payroll tax adjustments and reconciliations, federal and state penalty abatements and federal and state refund analysis.

Speaker, Scott Schapiro, is a Principal in KPMG’s State and Local Tax (SALT) practice based in McLean, Virginia. Scott works directly with clients throughout the country as the national Principal in charge of SALT’s national employment tax practice. Although based in KPMG’s Midatlantic area, Scott spends an equal amount of his time with clients and in KPMG offices in the Northeast and Southeast areas as well. Having over twenty one years experience in the federal and state payroll and unemployment tax arena, Scott is uniquely qualified to assist in all matters of employment tax issues for companies of all sizes and industry focus. He has frequently presented to professional organizations and provides a variety of KPMG internal training sessions on employment tax.
