Speaker, Manan Shah assists in a wide variety of employment tax engagements within the practice including compliance, consulting and controversy services.  His expertise lies in technical knowledge of a wide variety of employment tax issues including payroll tax compliance procedures, state unemployment and withholding tax sourcing, federal and state payroll tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, worker classification determinations, federal and state payroll tax adjustments and reconciliations, federal and state penalty abatements and federal and state refund analysis.  Manan joined KPMG in 2001.  Prior to joining the firm, Manan graduated with honors receiving a Bachelors Degree in Accountancy and a Masters of Taxation from Georgia State University.  Manan is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of CPAs.

Speaker, Scott Schapiro is a Virginia-based Principal with KPMG’s State and Local Tax Practice.  While leading SALT’s employment tax practice nationally, Scott works directly with clients on all aspects of payroll and employment tax in the Northeast, Southeast and Midatlantic regions.  While specializing in a wide variety of payroll tax issues, Scott works extensively in the fields of employment tax controversy representation, payroll tax compliance and business restructuring issues.  Scott has been with KPMG for ten years.  Scott is a member of the American Payroll Association and UWC, the National Foundation for Unemployment and Workers Compensation, and is a frequent speaker on employment tax topics including merger and acquisition planning, worker classification issues and related matters.
