Speaker,
Penelope J. Phillips,
is a
shareholder at Felhaber, Larson, Fenlon and Vogt, P.A. She focuses
exclusively on representing employers in all areas of employment law,
including defending lawsuits based on claims of breach of contract,
discrimination (including gender, age, religion, disability, national
origin, and race), wage and hour issues, defamation, whistleblower, and
wrongful discharge. Ms. Phillips provides ongoing counseling to
employers advising them in all areas of employment law, on employee
handbooks, and on personnel policies and procedures and provides advice
about matters arising under the discrimination laws, the Family and
Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in
Employment Act (ADEA), and other areas regulated by state and federal
law. Ms. Phillips also investigates complaints of employee misconduct
(including harassment and offensive behavior). She has worked with and
practiced before various state and federal agencies, including the
Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and
various state and local fair employment practices agencies. Ms.
Phillips is also a frequent teacher and trainer on labor and employment
issues. She provides ongoing training to employers, managers, and human
resource personnel on matters such as FMLA, ADA, FLSA, hiring and
firing, sexual harassment and hostile work environment, discrimination,
investigations, alcohol and drug testing, and reductions-in-force.
