Please join the Board for breakfast on April 17, 2003.  This month’s topic is Employing and Paying US Citizens Abroad and Aliens in the US.  Karen and Sharlene will discuss employment and tax issues surrounding employing and paying expatriates and aliens in the US.  This session will also provide information on terms and definitions, I-9 rules, FICA and withholding tax rules, year-end reporting, and useful web sites.

Karen Klein is a graduate of the University of North Dakota where she earned a BS degree in Business Administration.  She obtained her CPP certification in 1994.  Karen has been with the Univ. of MN since 1988, serving in various payroll tax positions.  She is an active member of the Northstar Chapter, serving currently as the Program Co-chair.

Sharlene Smith is a graduate of the University of Central Florida where she earned a BS degree in Elementary Education.  She obtained her CPP certification in 1995.  Sharlene joined GMAC/RFC in 1998, prior to joining GMAC Sharlene was a Payroll Supervisor at Wells Fargo Bank.  She is also an active member of the Northstar Chapter, serving currently as Vice-President. 

April’s Community Outreach is the Food Shelf  “Fund Drive” for the Iron Range.   There is a great need for food in Minnesota, especially in the Iron Range, due to the slowing economy and the changing world situation.   If you would like to make a contribution to the fund drive, the Northstar Chapter will be collecting donations at April’s meeting.  Checks can be made out to “Minnesota Food Share” and please include “Iron Range Fund” in the memo section.
