Can Virtual Teams Work in Your Environment?

Can virtual teams work in your environment? How can you manage your team if four members are in California, three in Ireland, two in Minnesota, two in France and one in India. You will get "hands on" experience in discussing a real life scenario about a frustrated virtual team leader who was shocked to learn that half of her virtual team complained about being "out of the loop" while the others half said she was "too involved" in their work.

At our August 4, 2004 breakfast event, Gerald (Gerry) Falkowski will share his work and practical experience with virtual teaming. Gerry recently retired from IBM where he was a Partner in IBM Business Consulting Services.  He has over 35 years of industry experience in management and consulting.  During our event Gerry will discuss a "virtual team capital" model and virtual teaming tips and techniques from his soon to be published book: "Remote Control: A Practitioner's Guide to Managing Virtual Teams."  Gerry's book will be published by IHRIM and the book-signing event will take place at the IHRIM Conference in Reno, May 2005.

This interactive session is appropriate for both people in business and individuals that need to work together virtually with others, for any reason ... even if only across town. Commonly asked questions about virtual teaming will be address such as:

bullet

What should the characteristics be of a global virtual team?

bullet

How do you compensate for the missing inputs at a virtual meeting (the smells, tastes, and touches of a real meeting)?

bullet

What are the new challenges facing team leaders responsible for leading projects and people in a virtual environment?

bullet

Why technology alone is not the answer to virtual teaming?

bullet

How do you leverage the personality styles of team members you may never see?

bullet

How do you deal with cultural differences remotely?
