What's Up With Congress?
October 2002 - We've heard from several of you wondering why you
hadn't received any congressional updates from us lately. The
fact is, there hasn't been any federal legislative news to report in
quite some time. Moreover, the House and Senate left Washington,
D.C., last week to prepare for the Nov. elections. They haven't even
passed a federal budget; rather they passed a continuing resolution
that will fund the federal government through November 22 at
last year's levels. Congress will return on November 12 for
one week to address appropriations and legislation in conference
committees awaiting final resolution. The Congress then will return
in December for a lame duck session.
The bottom line:
Don't expect any major federal tax law changes any time soon.

Northstar Chapter Supports the U.S. Marine Corps
Reserve Toys For Tots Program |
TOYS for TOTS!
Please bring your unwrapped gifts to the December
19, 2002 meeting. This organization is one of the best
at delivering kindness and happiness to children of all ages
and backgrounds during the holiday season.Sponsoring Toys
For Tots allows the Northstar Chapter membership the
opportunity to give to our community during this Holiday
season. Donated toys should be unwrapped and there will be a
list provided that will highlight the most needed toys. This
year, there is an emphasis is on infants and teen-agers as
they are the two groups that receive the least amount of
donations each year. Thank you for supporting Toys
For Tots! |
The
mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program
is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and
December each year and distribute those toys as Christmas
gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign
is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to
deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of
hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into
responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community
leaders. The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help
needy children throughout the United States experience the joy
of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of our
nation's most valuable natural resource - our children; to
unite all members of local communities in a common cause for
three months each year during the annual toy collection and
distribution campaign; to contribute to better communities in
the future. |
