STUDY GROUPS
Terry Meggitt and Jim Longley were recognized several times during the year for their facilitation of the Northstar Chapter CPP Study Groups. They have been very committed to helping our members prepare for the CPP test and have a 90+ percent passing rate with their study groups. The study groups prepare for a spring and fall schedule.
Therefore, the spring group usually starts in February and the fall group in June. The members who passed their CPP or FPC certification include:

Community
Involvement
The chapter attempts to participate in a community project on a quarterly basis. 2001 was a very successful year.
March
of Dimes
We collected $135.00 from members at the March meeting and the Chapter
matched that amount for a total donation of $270.00
Sharing
and Caring Hands
The organization is set up to be a safety net organization to help with
whatever needs are not being met. This
includes but is not limited to providing meals, clothing, showers, shelter,
transportation help, rent deposits, rent help, medical assistance, dental care,
furniture, school expenses, funeral assistance, and other miscellaneous needs.
The Chapter collected cash and personal hygiene items during our July
business meeting. Total
contribution was $1,100.00.
Toys
for Tots
We collected toys at our December meeting and delivered approximately 400
toys for children and teens. In
addition, we had a very generous member who won the Palm Pilot at our fall
conference donate back the $240.00 value of the prize (she works for the
government and couldn’t accept the prize).
The Chapter then matched her donation and provided toys worth $450.00.
We had a very successful one-day annual conference at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott on October 10, 2001. Our Special Guests were Kenneth E. McGonagill, CPP – President of the American Payroll Association and Marcia Aamodt, CPP – APA’s “Payroll Woman of the Year for 2001”. Our Key Note Speaker was Julie Cole from Compelling Communications who spoke on “Eagles, Achieving New Heights of Personal and Professional Excellence. Our plan is to again partner in 2002 with the local IHRIM organization to have a two day conference with both Payroll and HR topics – dates are October 11 and 12, 2002 at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott. Please mark your calendars.
We announced our annual Scholarship Program and made applications available on the web site and at two of our monthly meetings. Our Scholarship Program is open to members or their children. We did not have any applications this year, so we felt some of the matching gifts for community projects was a way for us to give back to others in need. A portion of the proceeds from our annual conference is always set aside for scholarships.

Many thanks to our Board members and all the volunteers who assisted us during 2001. We have worked very hard to give our members opportunities to learn a little more about our organization and to network through volunteering.
One great example was all the members who came to our rescue and worked on the Annual Fall Conference. The response was overwhelming and everyone was recognized with special certificates at our July Business Meeting.
Happy 2002….we hope to see you at our monthly meetings!
