MEETING MINUTES
The June Meeting of the Northstar Chapter was called to order by Linda
Obertin, CPP,
Chapter Vice President.
Announcements were read.
Linda then introduced our speaker, David Cossi, Attorney at Law for
Vurna, Guzy and
Steffen. David’s presentation covered topics covered important classification issues
regarding Exempt and Non-Exempt employees and how employers can take an active role in
this.
The meeting adjourned.
GOVERNMENT NEWS
REMINDER – NEW GROUP TERM LIFE TABLES EFFECTIVE 7/1/1999
Imputed income on Group-Term Life Insurance Premiums have changed from 10 age brackets
to 11 age brackets. While the new rates take affect July 1, 1999, employers have until
January 1, 2000 to change software programs. Additional information can be obtained from

STATE OF MINNESOTA ANNOUNCES NEW WITHHOLDING BRACKET TABLES EFFECTIVE 7/1/1999.
The 1999 Minnesota Legislature enacted an income tax cut effective for 1999. The
Minnesota Department of Revenue has issued new withholding tables based on the new rates
effective 7/1/1999.
The changes are as follows:
| the low rate, goes from 6% to a reduced rate of 5.5% |
| the mid-rate, goes from 8% to a reduced rate of 7.25% |
| the high rate, goes from 8.5% to a reduced rate of 8% |
Employers can review these changes at the Department of Revenue’s Website: www.taxes.state.mn.us where this information was
obtained.
NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK – September 13-17, 1999
Plans are being made for an exciting and rewarding National Payroll Week Celebration.
Opportunities for Community Outreach, Volunteerism, Recognition, and Media Outreach are
available for willing participants. Please contact your organization to identify
opportunities and then contact Ann Johnson, CPP, NPW Coordinator to share your ideas.
Also, volunteers are needed for various Chapter sponsored events, such as visiting High
Schools, Community Service and contacting the media.
