The March Meeting of the
Northstar Chapter was called to order by Marcia Aamodt, Chapter President.
Marcia announced open position descriptions were available on
the registration table.
Marcia then introduced Denice McMahon, CPP who gave the
membership an update on the 1999 State Conference and an update on our Northstar Chapter
Website.
Our 1999 State wide Conference will be held in partnership
with IHRIM (International Association for Human Resources Information Management) on
September 16th and 17th at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The
theme of the Conference/Vendor Fair will be "Surfing into the Millennium".
Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone interested in being part of this
Conference.
Denice also updated the membership on the progress of the
Northstar Website. Currently the Board is submitting items for inclusion on the website
such as past newsletters, announcements, and information on the Board positions. As soon
as the site is available we will be announcing the web address.
Marcia then introduced Linda Obertin, CPP who expanded on the
State Conference by letting members know what some of the topics for the breakout sessions
were anticipated to be, and if members would like to suggest other topics to let her know.
Linda also spoke about how IHRIM is an international organization whose focus is on the
more technical and software side of Human Resources and with that Payroll. This
partnership will hopefully address the technical needs members have identified as wanting
more information on.
Linda then spoke about classes at Century College for the
Payroll Professional. These classes are listed in the Education section later in
the newsletter.
The membership was then divided into three groups, Large
employer over 1000 employees, Small Employer under 1000, and Government employer for
discussion of topics. Board members facilitated each group and kept notes on discussion
topics and discussion lines.
Members discussed such issues as preparation for Y2K, manual
check requests, procedures and policies, and resources for other members to contact for
questions. The networking and sharing of information continues to be one of the best
assets the Northstar Chapter has.
The meeting adjourned.
