NEWSFLASH
IRS Responded Quickly to Reduction in Mileage Rate
As reported in the December 1998 Northstar Newsletter, the APA
submitted a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rossotti asking for reconsideration of the
Mileage Rate decrease from 32.5 cents per mile to 31.0 cents scheduled for January 1, 1999
based on the burden it would place on employers to maintain their "accountable"
reimbursement plans.
On December 24, 1998 the IRS announced it would delay implementation
of a reduced business standard mileage rate to 31 cents per mile until April 1, 1999.
This additional time will allow employers to modify their business
expense policies to ensure compliance with requirements of an "accountable plan"
