Outsourcing & Your Families This section will cover different options within Payroll/Benefits/HR to review for Outsourcing services and vendors. Items to research when looking at Outsourcing options. Some of the “small rocks” that may make sense to do In-house or Outsource depending on internal resources, size, cost, etc. Plus, items to keep in mind when managing Vendors, System Interfaces, and Outsourcing options. H. Payroll & Account Reconciliation A discussion on basic payroll accounting, reconciliation of payroll accounts, and financial statement review. Topics covered will include the creation of journal entries for ledger posting, how and who should reconcile payroll accounts, and how payroll impacts the financial statements. I. Compliance 2005: Staying Ahead of the Curve If you want to keep up with the latest compliance changes, this session is for you. Ceridian’s Jim O’Connell, with some 30 years experience in Washington DC, will share his perspectives on new and pending compliance legislation and regulations. On health care issues, Jim will discuss the latest thinking in Washington on Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Account rollover legislation and the tax treatment of employer-provided health insurance. On retirement security, he will discuss new legislation to strengthen 401(k) plans, including the new “Roth 401(k).” Jim will also review proposals to restructure Social Security, including the option to invest a portion of payroll taxes in private accounts and what that might mean for payroll compliance. Time permitting, he will overview new proposals for FLSA “comp-time” and “flex-time” for private sector hourly workers, 409(A) deferred compensation rules, FIT/FICA withholding on military differential pay and the rules for 35% withholding on supplemental pay in excess of $1 million. |
