A. Emerging Technologies

As our companies evolve to maintain their competitive edge in the e-Business world, Payroll Professionals must keep up with the latest in e-Payroll trends and technology.  During this session, the latest tools and technology with be discussed surrounding ePayroll and the employee relationship management process.

Linda M. Obertin, CPP is the Sr. Director, Payroll at Sodexho.  Sodexho is the 57th largest employer in the United States with 120,000 employees in 6,000 locations throughout the US.

Linda has 16 years of in-depth payroll experience, which has included responsibility for management of payroll, benefits and HRIS.  She has held positions in the Human Resource, Payroll and Accounting divisions for corporations in the profit and non-profit sectors ranging from 300 employees to over 100,000 employees. Her work also includes developing and implementing expatriate payroll systems and re-engineering payroll systems and processes.

Linda is a Certified Payroll Professional.  She currently chairs the APA’s Emerging Technologies subcommittee of the Large Employer Task Force and is a member of the Nominating and Elections Committee.  In 2002 Linda was honored with the "Payroll Woman of the Year" award and in 1999 Linda received the APA’s Citation of Merit Award. Linda has also served as an instructor of the APA’s continuing education courses.  She has written articles for Paytech and is a speaker for the American Payroll Association.  She is also a member of International Human Resources Information Management Association.

 

B. CPP / FPC & Re-Certification

Jodie Shanahan, CPP, Sr. Payroll Specialist for Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

Jeanne Schultz, CPP, Sr. Payroll Specialist for Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.  As a Sr. Specialist she ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll and related tax reporting to federal and state agencies.  Provides consultation, information, services, analysis, judgment and direction to HR Administrative Support team and clients to process payroll and provide payroll related services in a timely and accurate manner.  Investigate, recommend and implement improvements to the payroll process.

Randy Shindelar, MBA, is the Controller of Floyd Larson Construction Co., a union general contractor.  Randy oversees all the accounting functions and payroll aspects of the construction company and of several related entities. Additionally, he owns a consulting company that provides installation of accounting and payroll systems for small businesses.  Randy has worked with the following accounting & payroll programs; Timberline Gold Construction Software, Peachtree Software, QuickBooks Software, Yardi Property Management and Concord Construction Software.

 

D. Internet / Identify Theft

Identity theft is the fastest growing financial crime in America.  It occurs when someone steals a victim's Social Security Number, credit card number, or other personal identifying information and uses it to commit financial fraud and other crimes.  This presentation explains how identity thieves operate and suggests practical measures to lessen the odds of being victimized.

 

Marshall Schwartz
Head of the corporate security function at Deluxe Corporation.  Marshall graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and has a Masters Degree in International Relations from George Washington University.  He has served in the Army and the Central Intelligence Agency and also directed security for the 1991 International Special Olympics Games.

Brad Stillman
Brad Stillman was born and raised in Minnesota. Graduated from the University of Minnesota and was commissioned a Leiutenant of U.S. Marines. Brad served in the Infantry and Intelligence fields for 16 years, returning to Minnesota 4 years ago at which time he went to work for Deluxe. Working with computers in the Intelligence field requires high levels of IT security which Brad has applied in his work at Delxue.

Gene McNinch is the principle analyst responsible for capturing and applying Human Resources Information to business application.

GMAC-RFC has leveraged Human Resource and Payroll information to help in the formation and execution of business strategies.  By capturing relative and indicative data elements, the HRIS and Payroll teams have been able to contribute to business success in non-traditional ways.

To succeed in today’s competitive environment almost every organization utilizes technology to manage and support their human resources.  As a result, most Payroll and HR staff are regularly involved in the process of selecting new technology.  This session provides practical ideas to improve the selection process and reduce risk.

Bill Slowter is the founder of The Solution Exchange, provides strategic consulting services supporting clients’ efforts to align human resources practices, processes and systems with the strategic objectives of the organization.  Bill also develops web-based adult learning solutions focused on sales and service “readiness”.

Bill serves a variety of clients in both the public and private sector including Siemens Medical Solutions, PAKON Manufacturing, Deltec, Planned Parenthood, and Multicare Associates.

Bill completed both his undergraduate and graduate studies at The Ohio State University receiving his MBA in 1977.  Bill serves as the Treasurer for Inner City Tennis and recently completed a 4-year term on the Minnetonka School Board.
